It has little flaps to cover sockets you're not using, but it doesn't have built-in protection behind the sockets like some of the others that are made out there. If the doors weren't closed, I don't see any protection. Not that it rules it out, it's just good to know when you shop and evaluate how you'll use it. It's good that it came with two stakes to bury it in the ground - just in case or if you want to move it. It works well and has plenty of sockets on both sides, which makes it great for lots of Christmas decorations. Also, the stake should keep it upright and protect it from snow.
