Review on EVGA Supernova Modular Warranty 220 G5 0850 X1 by Todd Amarsingh

My hard drive has burned out and is barely working

I have been using EVGA products for many years, mainly graphics cards. Never been disappointed. I recently ordered a new liquid CPU cooler from them and it works great too. But I had stability issues, probably because my existing PSU couldn't handle the load, so I'm ordering an 850W unit here. Installing this unit in my micro-ATX case was a headache. I figured since the cables are modular I could just pull them out of the old PSU and plug them into this one and you'll be done, but no, this thing refuses to supply power unless it's connected to the cables connected with which it was supplied. So I spend almost three hours reconnecting my entire system only to have my system stuck in a boot loop because something (probably the graphics card) isn't getting enough power. Eventually it decides to boot randomly, but now my hard drive is not recognized. Further tests with the old drive and two other power supplies confirmed that the hard drive no longer spins up at all. Big. 4TB of data lost. I think I should have just stuck with EVGA graphics cards. It also never boots when Eco mode is on. Definitely don't use this feature if you have a power hungry card like my RTX 2080.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Quality
