I bought this shaker for the features (the ability to choose how much salt, pepper to dispense at once), it works as intended. I could easily move the lid from the closed position for pouring and shaking...even with small holes and big holes for bigger beans. The shape is comfortable...a bit thick but still comfortable and easy to hold. The curve I think helps strengthen this shaker, it won't slip out of your hands. It comes with a good dose of salt, pepper or herbs, just enough so you don't keep topping it up. I love that you can see how you draw up your dose as the bottom of this dispenser is visible through the beautiful, durable, clear glass. The shaker itself is made from durable clear glass with what appears to be a black metal sleeve on top. I have arthritis and opening jars and lids has become more difficult, but this makes things easier as I don't just open the screw cap, I unscrew the entire outer (black) part. This allows a whole hand to grip and twist instead of using two fingers as is required with screw caps. So for me it's perfect. And I'm thinking about buying more for my other spices. However, not affordable enough to upgrade all of my spices to this S&P/spice jar.
