Not long enough. Too short

My daughter is a bit overweight and tall. She will be 3 in June so I ordered her a size 5 and she is still too short. Her belly sticks out below. Now she wears it as a sleep shirt. If I compare that to a size 5 from the old fleet it looks like it should be a size 2T or 3T. I really wanted to like this shirt.
