Short Legs - Generators and Portable Power Supplies

I needed to quickly install four 200W photovoltaic panels. This kit saved me from having to look for each part individually. I think it was designed for a specific roof pitch as the angle isn't very adjustable. If you place it on a flat roof, platform, or slab on a slope, the angle will be too small for US mid-latitudes. If you live near the equator, this is probably ideal. What it needs are longer hind legs cut to length. Most parts are the Asian version of what is commercially called "Uni-Strut". I believe Uni-Strut is a trademark. There are a number of "standoff nuts" in the kit that fit into the channels. These nuts have plastic spacers instead of the usual steel spring to hold them in place. Annoying, but it works. All hardware is metric. The material is zinc plated to prevent rusting and is made of metal thick enough to get the job done. The instructions leave a lot to be desired, but all the mounts are packaged in separate kits for each step, so everything works fine. The panels are attached with extruded aluminum friction clips rather than fasteners, but that works too. Everything wobbles and wobbles until the assembly is complete. There are no conduits to organize cords, so you'll need to either conduit or tie cords on site. If you have time to make your own parts I would suggest this is probably the best option. Addendum: The kit survived the winter in Colorado at 8500 feet. Completely open on three sides, the north side is protected by a building. The usual high winds but less than the usual 4ft of snow accumulation.
