The lid screws on but leaks. Super annoying. I put plumbing tape on the lid's threads and it worked. The outside of the bottle is very smooth and tapers towards the top. If you take the bottle with wet hands, it practically slips out of your hand! I'm considering wrapping the coban around the bottle for a better grip. Plus it was a good price for 2 bottles. They serve my purpose, so I'm happy about that!
