Review on Teac LP-R550USBB CD Recorder With Cassette Turntable Black LPR550USBB by Alex May

Revainrating 4 out of 5

DOES ITS JOB THE BEST IT CAN WHICH IS PRETTY GOOD

I recently had computer issues and lost my Musicmatch Jukebox Plus option to record vinyl and cassettes to CD, so I invested in this unit. I just received it today and I have already recorded one vinyl album. It's fairly easy to get going in the recording process but here is why I rated is only as "it's okay": 1)With my Musicmatch Jukebox I used an amp which brought out the bass in the records quite well. The final recorded sound is pretty good but this unit just doesn't seem to generate the power my amp did and there is no way to control the sound output. 2)This may not be Teac's fault but just how units like this work, but while recording with a CD-R if you make one error while in manual record you have to scrap the disc and start your recording over from the start. 3)To follow up my concerns about my reason #2, the auto record really doesn't work very well at all from your analog source(as stated in the manual)so you might have to play your record or cassette first to make sure it is free from faults before doing a recording. I didn't notice the sound wavering some other reviewers have experienced but I have only recorded one album so far. Other than these concerns, I feel it is a nice, pretty well built unit. After using this for a day or so, it dawned on me you don't have to scrap the CD-R if you make a "mistake" as long as you keep track of what tracks are "mistakes". I was expecting this unit to work as my Jukebox software did on my computer. I'm starting to like this unit the more I use it, therefore I upgraded my review. If anyone experiences the turntable speed seeming to be a little slow, you may want to try lubricating the center of the LP platter. That has helped me with some older turntables, don't know if it would help here or not.

Pros
  • Featuring bass-reflex type speakers to boost low frequencies, the LP-R550USB is ideal for both recording and listening to music.
Cons
  • The device may require frequent repairs or maintenance to keep it running smoothly
