Cuts well but saves time

I bought this for a Dewalt FlexVolt 60V trimmer (DCST972X1) and it fits well although it's a little heavy. It cuts grass well outdoors but takes longer to cut grass growing on concrete. You have to push the blades into the concrete as they spin, which causes the blades to constantly kick the trimmer far enough to miss a few blades of grass. It also wears down the tips of the blades and the concrete you encounter. The alternative line trimmer also makes contact with concrete, but because it's a flexible plastic line, it has less impact and doesn't squeeze the trimmer like those metal blades, speeding up the one-pass cutting process. The grass trimmer also throws grass clippings away from the concrete, providing better confirmation that the job is done. Also I would keep it away from cords, copper ground rods (see picture) and chain link guards as the blades will most likely pinch them and damage both your trimmer and anything connected to it. So overall it's a cool concept, but I'm not sure it's worth the tradeoff for a more efficient, lighter trimmer. Pros: No dirty shoes, pants, etc. Cuts grass instead of shaking it off with a rope. Less chance of yellowing spots caused by getting too close. Cons: It takes longer to cut grass growing on concrete or other hard surfaces. The grass stays where you cut it, making it hard to tell if you missed it. Heavy, which makes it more tiring when doing large amounts of work.

Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
