I use them for all things without scratching. I just have to vary the pressure I apply and if you use them roughly the abrasive side will get worse over time but only depending on how you use them like any other sponge of this type. The sponge material is unique and the best I've come across, odorless when allowed to air dry after use. The material of the sponge is so soft that you can use it to wax your car in a pinch. Excello used to make a similar product with no abrasives and it would also be odor free but can't find it. If you need an abrasive, just green Scotchbright sheets (cut them to the size you want), a sponge isn't the most economical option.
