I installed a PVC gate valve 10 years ago to insulate sprinkler valves in my garden. Worked for a few years, then stopped working. I read online that gate valves do this. So 23 months ago I replaced it with a glued on PVC ball valve from my local hardware store. A week ago, water started dripping out of the 3/8 inch hole at the bottom of the valve. This happened regardless of whether the valve was open or closed. I have no idea why this hole existed. I was looking for a better replacement and found this one. Bought and installed with no problems. I like it because it's rated at 200psi while my last one was 150psi. I have 100-110psi water pressure so the latter shouldn't leak. And the new case is completely closed from the bottom, so there is no side opening at the bottom like the last one. The only thing that is a bit tricky with the installation is cutting the PVC tubing to the right length to fit the valve body, taking into account the natural gap in the PVC tubing. To do this, I cut a piece of PVC pipe exactly to the width of the new valve body. I then cut the PVC pipe that would connect to the valve about 1/8" shorter than what I felt was the ideal length. This gave me some slack to adjust when I glued the second part of the PVC universal joint. When I put it in place I used a gauge tube to measure the distance to the other side connector to make sure it was correct I was concerned that if I were to use the valve body to measure I would end up using some PVC Put glue on the valve body and glue it in place.When sticking it on, some glue ran out of the inside of the tube but I was able to wipe it off easily.This valve is much better made than the one I replaced but if this one ever fails, it takes 5 minutes to unscrew and replace with a new one, much better than replacing a glued valve.
