Ok I hesitated to order this bag because I have already tried to buy other 17 inch laptop bags (much more expensive!) with disappointing ones results. Third time - nice! I can honestly say I love this business. I call it a suitcase because it looks more like a padded briefcase (exactly what I wanted) than a tote or large wallet. Not only does it fit my 17" Dell laptop easily and freely, but it also has expandable pockets for cables, notepads, and folders. You can put books. I'm not kidding, the extensibility of this theme is awesome. I like that it's not leather because I haven't bought the leather yet which impressed me (less than $300) so I would have preferred a nice black fabric. I just wanted something to fit my large laptop with file storage and it fills the bill! As for shorter handles. I will take this (very comfortable) shoulder bag with me without any problems. I've added a photo to show the size. My height is 5 feet 7 inches. Highly recommended for every day, heavy duty roomy holdall that doesn't scream big bucks or advertise crappy plastic that looks like leather! Not so manly either that I feel like I'm using my husbands! Meets all requirements in this price range for me.
