I bought these in black. I wanted leggings comfortable enough to work from home, athletic enough for yoga or a hike, and presentable enough to wear out of the house for low-key social occasions in fall without getting cold or looking like I'm heading for the gym. Tl;dr: They REALLY delivered and I kind of can't believe they were only $16.LOOKS: Visually, they're a pretty good dupe for my black Girlfriend Collective leggings, which are my favorites for combining athletic functionality and an athleisure/casual look. The main difference is that these have seams that curve around the thighs and calves, while the GC seams are straight up and down. It's a little bit more of an athletic look, but the seams are flat and not obtrusive. There's no visible logo, and the the fabric is a nice matte opaque black with a sort of soft/suede-y texture. They seem squat-proof to me.FEEL: The fabric doesn't feel quite as upscale as GC or Lululemon Aligns -- I think it's a little thinner, and is a little bit more of a lint magnet -- but they're very comfortable. They've got a little compression, enough to make your butt look good but not so much you feel squeezed. A lot of my cheaper athletic gear (Old Navy, Senita) feels kind of scratchy/synthetic, but the material on these is really cozy. I'm not sure how they'd handle heavy sweat -- they feel like they would get damp -- but I'd definitely wear them to do yoga or go for a hike or short run.As for the other promises in the description, they only sort of have a control top. Upscale leggings have a wide compressive waistband (several inches) that holds you in. Less expensive ones (including these and my Old Navy running tights) have a 0.75-1" thicker elastic at the top to really do the work. I don't mind the feeling, FWIW.POCKETS: Yes, they have them! My iPhone 8 Plus fits in them! I don't love the feeling of my giant phone hanging off my thigh, but that's not the brand's fault.SIZING: I am 5'5", 150 lbs, with a 30-inch waist and 40-inch hips. I found the size chart puzzling, ordered my usual size (M) and they fit great.ETC: This review is for the pants out of the box. I haven't washed them yet and will update if they deteriorate in any way (shinier, scratchier, looser) after the first few washes -- I'll treat them the way I do other athletic wear (Hex detergent, delicate cycle, hang dry).Since I'm comparing primarily to Girlfriend Collective on look and feel, I should note GC sells at a markup for reasons I fully support (recycled materials, ethical manufacturing, and inclusive marketing/branding that is a real breath of fresh air in the athleisure world). But given that I'm now wearing yoga pants virtually every day, the Lingswallows are a good way to affordably fill out the rest of my closet. I'm already debating if I should buy another color or stick with black for my next pair.
