My 2 year old loves to eat big cutlery that looks like mum and dad's cutlery. He was annoyed with plastic forks that didn't pierce properly and didn't get the food in his mouth. He feels more independent and is very proud of being able to support himself. He learns how to use the knife under strict supervision, he actually cuts like a butter knife. We keep the set in a diaper bag when we're not there, they just wipe down with a tissue or diaper cloth until we get home to clean them properly. They do have some weight but not too heavy for a 2 year old. We put them in the dishwasher with no problems. After a long period of use, they look almost like new.
