These are a little heavier cotton underwear then I’ve had (heavier then Jockeys for example) but they also have more stretch and fit better on the body…. They come up to about an inch below the belly button. I got a package of 4 black and another package of 4 multiple colors. After washing, it seemed that the fibers tightened a bit but it’s not that the panties shrank….they maybe fit even better! And they were still soft and the colors held up. (I washed in warm and dried on low). For a point of reference I generally wear a size 6 in jeans (e.g. Gloria Vanderbilt and Not Your Daughters Jeans)…. I bought a medium in the panties and they fit perfectly.
