This is a specific cable for Harmony consoles. .
Worked for my Harmony Elite. To disconnect, do not pull the cord, pull the plug. Make sure you ordered the Harmony remote cable. I don't know how it differs, but could the transmit and receive lines be mixed up like a null modem? Some models have different USB cables.
