I bought this to make my own rod holder. I bought 10x6 PVC pipe from Lowe's and cut it to 8 feet. I cleaned the outside of the PVC with 100% acetone I got from Sally Beauty Supply, then I sanded the tube so the paint would stick. Then I applied some Harbor Freight Bed Liner Paint, I applied about 3-4 coats and let it dry. and bolted it to the Thule roof rack of my empty truck's lid. After screwing it on, he found it good. After heavy rain I had some leaks. It dried out, I had no other issues or leaks other than the gasket smell which went away over time. I like the fact that it can be blocked so I leave my rods in and not worry about them being stolen. Steal they need bolt cutters or a screw to get the whole pipe out of my locked trunk.
