Review on Eldritch Horror by Evgeniy Zaytsev

Greetings to all board game lovers on my review of the wonderful tabletop cooperative game - Eldritch Horror.

Since childhood, I really loved to gather with friends and play a variety of games, and over time I began to collect them and try something new in such a diverse world of desktop masterpieces.

I started my board game journey with more competitive and strategy games like Through the Ages, Civilization, 7 Wonders, etc. More recently, I decided to try the genre of cooperative games and I was lucky enough to stumble upon such an instance as the Eldritch Horror, which I will try to tell you about.



What is the game about?



Eldritch Horror is a tabletop co-op game where players (from 1 to 8) take on the role of detectives who are trying to save the world from an impending disaster. Those who read Lovecraft's books should definitely be interested, but for the rest I will explain - here the ancient gods want to destroy the world and all life, and you and your friends will resist them in every possible way.



Game process

The process itself is very exciting and can drag you into the game for many hours. You have to fight monsters, look for equipment, conjure, travel, close portals and much more. In general, the whole point is to fulfill the goals of preventing the victory of the ancient god (there are 4 of them in the standard edition, each with its own goals and abilities).



During your search for clues and answers to various difficulties of the game, you will solve everything quite simply - by rolling dice. Of course, someone is annoyed by the fact that everything in this game is decided by chance, whether the desired value on the dice falls out or not. But it is precisely because of this small element of randomness that the game becomes so exciting and difficult.



Beginner Tips

When you sit down to play it for the first time, I give you a big piece of advice - read the rules before you start playing. If you do not do this, then spend an extra 2-3 hours studying them. Of course, they are not complicated, but you will have to understand the essence.

I also advise you to read all the artistic texts of the cards and try to play the role of your detective character: this way you can definitely feel the irreversibility of the end of the world and the power to try to prevent it. The Eldritch horror game is loved, first of all, for its atmosphere and the ability to convey sensations to the players, make them experience various emotions.

In general - I advise everyone! A very decent game and one of the best representatives of its genre.
