White lithium grease should be in every garage or back room. It has many qualities that make it an excellent choice for many different projects. This is the lube I use to lubricate my car door hinges and tracks on both my garage door and garage door opener. The best quality, in my opinion, is that it stays where you put it for a long time. A light lubricating spray like WD-40 will quickly disappear if used in these areas. This product will also withstand some contact with water and will not wash off immediately. This is a large 8 ounce tube (by weight) of high quality lube. I prefer it in a tube rather than a can as I can better concentrate the lube exactly where I want it. The current price is very reasonable for the tube size you are getting.
