Review on Timken 412920 Seal by Brandon Kraemer

October 13, 2016 I used these on my van to replace the factory seals. to be cleaned and repackaged. The seals must not be reused after removal. The OEM seal was Lippert Part # 122088 (GS 2250DL) for $3.77. The Lippert seal works, but it is a very "cheap" seal of poor quality. If this seal fails, the lubricant will migrate out of the spindle cavity, flow out and foul the brake pads. This creates a very unsafe mess and therefore the quality of the seal is very important and worth the extra money for the Timken/National seal. Photos show this Timken/National seal on the left and a Lippert seal on the right of each photo. A photo shows both seals from the inside. The other photo shows both seals from the outside. a stronger "frame" to support the seal. For safety reasons alone, I always spend the extra money on a Timken/National gasket rather than a cheap, low quality Lippert gasket.

Pros
  • Provides excellent durability
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other parts
