Review on Unitek USB 3.0 to SATA Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station πŸ–₯️ - 2.5/3.5-inch HDD SSD Support, Hard Drive Duplicator Cloner, UASP & 16TB Capacity - Black by Chris Cranor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The button is very difficult to press properly to start the clone function

As a docking station, this product is fine - so if you just need an external drive docking station function, I must say that this product has it worked well so far in the short time I've had it. I used it to connect some old drives and pull out a few things I wanted to keep and it worked fine for that purpose. However, the clone function does not work. [NOTE - see edit below; finally it worked] I tried it today for the first time. There is a big button that you have to hold down for a few seconds to start the cloning function and when you try to push the button it wiggles up and down and then gets stuck in a slanted position but never starts the cloning function . It feels like this big big one is on a heavy spring but no rails so the button itself only wobbles when you push it back and when the plastic button is tipped it sticks. I stopped trying because I was afraid that trying to use a device that would clone the current drive for backup purposes would turn it into a completely inoperable paperweight. If you are interested in the clone function, I do not recommend this device. UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA Dual Bay Hard Drive Docking Station with Offline Clone/Duplicate Hard Drive, Support 2.5" 3.5" SSD SATA I/II/III up to 8TB, Samsung SSD and UASP EDIT: My original review above gave this one Product a one star rating. After many tries I was finally able to enable the clone feature and it worked fine so I'm editing my review and updating it to three stars. To start cloning, you need to press the center front-back button under the heavy spring until the blue light comes on, then press it again (lightly) to start the cloning process, indicated by a flashing blue light . The problem is getting to that original blue light. This button has no guides, so it tilts and gets stuck when you try to push it far enough to make the initial blue light glow, and it's difficult to pull off and snap back to its original position, so maybe you should try again. I suspect the button needs to be pushed back about 1/4 inch. I will say that when I was able to enable the clone feature, it worked flawlessly. I recently had a hard drive failure and even though I had a backup of my content, I had to restart my OS, MB drivers and all my programs before I could restore from the backup, so I really wanted to put that time behind me. consuming task by creating a clone after installing programs and drivers. I made a clone and it is currently on my computer and is working fine. The other hard drive is hidden in case I fail again or I ever need to restart this computer again: at least the basics are there and all I have to add back after cloning is the data and any new programs. created, which will save me a few hours. A slight mold modification for the plastic parts, including a key and groove on the sides of the button and the sides of the device, solves this problem: it straightens the button back and eliminates the tipping that causes the button to get stuck when you try it to press. Without this, I'm wondering how many times I can "fight" the button in the right contact to trigger the clone function. I edited my rating to give this device three stars as the docking feature is fine and the cloning feature works well once you manage to get it working. I didn't give two stars due to a recent design flaw that makes it difficult to start the cloning process as the button tilts and sticks when you try to press it to start the cloning function. The company emailed me asking for my initial review and I made that suggestion in my reply to it. I hope they change their design because button issues aside, this is a good device that works well.
