It's a pity that there is no instruction manual for the vernier in the box. I spent about 6 hours watching YouTube videos back-to-back until I finally figured out how to use the vernier scale. The reason I say the vernier scale on this instrument stinks is because this one, like many other vernier scales used to measure inches, has its scale set to 1/128th of an inch. It's very common, but the pain is in the butt. Other instruments use a vernier scale to measure inches, but instead of a 1/128 scale, they use a 0.001 inch scale. It makes the math so easy you can do it in your head. It's like a vernier scale measuring millimeters where the math is easy to do in your head. But I don't work in millimeters; I work in customs. Therefore, I would like the vernier scale of this instrument to use a 0.001 inch measurement. Conclusion: This tool is well made and holds up reasonably well, but be prepared for some tedious math - if it were possible with a simple 0.001 inch scale.
