Review on SMALLRIG Camera Cage for Sony A7 II/A7R II/A7S II Mirrorless Digital Camera with Top Handle and HDMI Cable Lock - 2014 by Mario Hernandez

The cage is just great for the price.

This cage is excellent for the price. I'll start with the cons: There's really only two cons for me, and those are picky given the insanely low price compared to say Tilta or Wooden Camera Cage. First, the C1 and C2 buttons are very difficult to access. This is a bummer because I use both buttons regularly. I might not notice this, however, due to Sony's excellent button layout, and well, it's made out of ONE piece of metal. Every day I sacrifice a few unnecessary buttons for uncompromising durability. The only other downside I can think of is that SmallRig doesn't make or offer a handle with knobs. I'm sure this is the main reason Tilta cages are so expensive, but I would pay more for the exact same cage/grip with added features. Using this button seems to make it difficult to access the buttons at best. Now for the pros (and there are a lot of them, so I only use bullets for them): - PRICE. $159 as of this writing is less than half the price of other custom cages of this quality. Made from a solid block of aluminum. Nice matte black finish. Many sizes 1/4 x 20 and 3/8 inch. mounting holes. Two cold shoe mounts. Integrated NATO mounting rail. Built-in ARRI socket. Unlimited access to battery, storage and interface. I cannot stress enough how high quality this item is. I hope this review was helpful to you. Let me know if you have any questions!
