*Edited on February 5th and 7th, 2020 "I need to change my rating from 5 stars to only 2 stars. I won't buy it again and I don't think anyone else should either. "6. January 2020 - I received the device today. Installation was so easy, it has a smart design. I installed 4 x 10TB Seagate Iron Wolf hard drives, all of which were recognized immediately and worked perfectly. The USB 3.0 speed was pretty fast: 3 TB data transfer from one drive to another in the case in less than 8 hours, stable 95-100 MB/s The outer material is mainly aluminum and cools very well Photos (and other reviews) have me led to the assumption that it is plastic and it isn't cools very well. The fans are controlled by a disc in the base, at full speed they are quite noisy but even at half speed they press *GO* Air through the case. I see reports of these fans dying in some reviews, if that's the case I can see that this is a problem, but I also see that they are a standard size and I like the unit enough to be ready to replace them if that becomes a problem. AC power with IRC 320 C13 connector (standard PC power cord, runs from PC power supply to wall outlet). That's very good because it means the 1/2 power cable is cheap and widely available should you need a replacement. However, the power transformer itself is made of low quality plastic and I think it will be the first component. It looks and feels very cheap, especially when compared to the excellent build quality of the case itself. For a first day at work, this is just a fantastic USB case. If it goes wrong or fails within the next 6 months I will come back and update this review and I will definitely do my due diligence and select the best power supply for the device as I am pretty sure it is a good one "weak link" acts. (and a cut to bring this unit down to $80 at the time of my purchase). So far I'm very, very happy with my 40TB external box! February 5, 2020 - Fans died tonight. This is less than 3 DAYS from the return window. A pretty strange time. The drive temperature was MUCH higher than it should have been in standby, when the fan failed it actually got a lot hotter than I expected and put the drives in serious danger. It's not worth the risk. After that I have to change my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars. I wouldn't buy it again and I don't think anyone else should either. ** February 7, 2020 - The fan itself was fine. However, the power connector on the board itself no longer supplies power to the fan. So, in principle, the fan cannot *BE* replaced without replacing the power supply for the fan. the actual fan that is built into the unit (with the chrome shroud I already had, the one that came with the fan looks very professional so I couldn't in good conscience use it). Everything works again. Now I need 2 AC plugs to power it but then again the fan keeps blowing even when you unplug the drives and cools them down after use where the original left them as they were.
