I was able to make a pair of poplar shaker doors with relative ease using this piece. Be sure to pay attention to the placement of the spacers provided - when the bit arrived the tongue was too thin and I had to move the small brass spacers to get a solid connection. As with any plate set, make a few test cuts to ensure everything lines up well. Oddly enough, I got the best cut by running the wood through the bit fairly quickly. If I slowed the feed too much it would set the wood on fire a bit (not a problem since that part is hidden by the glue). I had no problem with the bit also having a 1/4" shank. I cut the tongue in 3 passes and the groove in 2 passes. Contrary to other reviews, stripping wasn't much of an issue when using a thrust board used.along with the wood to catch the bit when it comes out of the piece.Even without the pusher it had very little breakage although I've only used it with poplar. You need to scrape the outside edges 3/4 thick of the board when cutting the tongue but this is relatively common and expected when using a tongue and groove cutter.A quick sanding with 220 grit cleaned the edge up nicely.Definitely not as good as the red lure sets but for less than those Half the price this is a good budget option Would buy again.
