Review on πŸ‘ Top-rated Bestop 7531015 TrekStep for 2009-2010 Dodge Ram 1500 & 2011-2018 Ram 1500 (Dual Exhausts Only); Compatible with Rear Either Side by Todd Adams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made, a perfect fit and surprisingly easy to assemble. despite instructions.

Conclusion: This product works as advertised. Well built, easy to assemble, an absolute "must have" for people who can't jump in the back of their truck like they used to. Feature: Fits my 2014 Ram 1500 Longhorn with dual 5" exhaust. Installed on the driver's side. I didn't have to use any of the supplied gaskets to keep the clearance from the exhaust pipe. The step gives me enough room with the tailgate down for a firm left foot step up to the bed. on the side of the truck, albeit less, and I broke my shin every time I climbed up. Folds and closes like clockwork. Does not hit bumper or exhaust pipe when "popping". Barely bends under my 250lb weight. .Instructions: The instructions are not 100% clear or correct. The parts list and drawings (screws) do not match what is required in the instructions or what is in the box. But the installation is so easy that it is friendly and intuitive to determine which screw goes where. Installation: took about 30 minutes but I went slow because I wasn't sure it would fit my exhaust properly. The instructions called for a ratchet with extension and sockets of 15 and 17mm, and a 10mm ring spanner. I found installation easier using a 15mm deep ratchet to attach the bracket to the bumper frame, a 10mm ratchet wrench to remove the bumper bracket and a 17mm ratchet wrench to tighten the link arm to the mounting bracket after giving it a try was installed fit. There was enough space under the bumper for all these tools. Recommendation: Steel bolts, aluminum rod and footrest. Eventually, this can lead to bimetallic corrosion, seizing into the threads and/or reducing the strength of the threads in aluminum parts. I'll probably remove and reinstall the step, using some blue Loctite on the two bumper frame bolts (steel to steel) and anti-seize paste on everyone else. Also, be careful not to overtighten the steel screw in the aluminum parts or you risk damaging the threads. 4 stars so far. 5 stars later if it doesn't fall on the track or fail while I'm standing on it. Upgrade to 5 stars. 1400 km driven with mounted side stand. No shifting or play issues. Maintains a clearance of about 1/2 inch from my oversized exhaust pipes perfectly. The step really is just the right size to be used with the tailgate down and conveniently stored away when not in use.
