For outdoor use in a sheltered area, these fans feel like a steal. All-metal construction means no sagging of the blades. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, the device is prone to rust. Before you hang it, here are a few hacks to help prolong the life of this fan: 1) Tape the small holes at the top. Dust and insects _will_ get in there. In addition, moisture on unprotected bearings causes rust. 2) Some machine oil on the upper shaft. 3) Try improvising a gasket around the top shaft. If you separate the wiring and the bottom bar, you can slip off the rubber grommet, but you will have to replace a cable connector. Or just try to improvise a seal with duct tape. I use metal tape, it's very sticky and won't fall apart over time. 4) Wipe down the entire block and blades with acetone, then paint your favorite color with a good exterior paint (Rustoleum or Krylon from your local beautification center). Then apply two coats of clear coat from the same manufacturer. When they fail, the bearings fail. Unfortunately, that's true, because even with cheap plastic seals, this device could have been much more powerful. But you can fix it yourself. You won't find a comparable fan without spending 5-6 times more.
