I've had a refurbished EA6500v2 (essentially the same router as EA6700) since 2015 as a hotspot for my house with 3rd party dd-wrt firmware. I needed a router for a project, so in April 2019 I bought a refurbished EA6700 for about $35. The router can easily be overclocked to 300MB/s, which is much faster than most people's download speeds. The default firmware is suitable for basic use. If you really want to unlock the potential of this router, dd-wrt is the way to go. The FCC requires manufacturers to make it harder for you to use third-party firmware, and at first I thought that was impossible. Turns out it can be done though! It just takes a bit of skill. All in all, if you need a decent router so you don't have to pay your ISP $10 a month to use their crappy combo device, this is it! Fast enough for streaming or gaming that you might use in a non-commercial environment. definitely recommend installing dd-wrt! It will take some work to bypass the stock firmware and find the latest stable build, but it's worth it. SPECIAL for such a cheap router. I have since bought 2 more of these routers and all 3 work amazingly well!
