I am pleasantly surprised with this purchase. I was looking for a small radio for office use; be familiar with reception problems in a commercial building. A few older and much more expensive Sony radios couldn't handle it, and my vaunted CC radio fared poorly. I took a chance, thanks in part to Todderbert's written reviews and YouTube reviews. Sony makes five cheaper FM radios by my count. Two small, pocket-sized, one medium-sized (the most attractive of them all) and two large, almost desktop-sized devices. All I assume have identical or similar electronics. The main differences are in the size of the device and speaker, as well as in the power supplies. I choose the ICF-19 because it runs on three D batteries (no AC option). I prefer battery operation as it causes less signal interference. The advantage of this D cell block is a much longer battery life. The batteries also add a bit of weight to the device, as well as more placement options than just access to an outlet. Reception on this device is excellent; much better than my more expensive devices. The sound is quite pleasant (the large speaker is another reason to buy). Yes, it's plastic, but it doesn't look or feel cheap (btw, don't be shy about the "white" dial. It's muted, more gray than white, and quite noticeable). All in all, quite a pleasant surprise. A good buy at this price!
