Review on πŸ’Ύ OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual Mini: High-Speed Bus-Powered RAID Storage Enclosure with USB 3.1 Gen 2 by Suhas Payton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy and lightweight small suitcases.

I have two of these dual drive cases. One was purchased with two OWC 1T SSDs. The other was an empty case in which I installed two Crucial 2T SSDs. Both are set to RAID 1 (mirroring). I found the cases to be solid, well built, and easy to install and set up. The exact speed you see depends on many factors. Connected to a 2018 Macintosh Mini, the Crucial model runs at around 1073.8 MB/s read and 499.8 MB/s write (with dd). Of course, there are no moving parts in an SSD, so the drive is silent. I also had no problems installing from discs. I just plugged them in and screwed them on. My only complaint is that, like many modern electronic devices, the case uses unusually bright blue LEDs that blink to indicate hard drive activity. Sitting in a darkened room with railings hurts. Luckily, you can slide a piece of paper inside the case in front of the LEDs, which will reduce their brightness to a more humane level. I would buy the case again. Actually I did.

Pros
  • OWC 1 year limited warranty
Cons
  • So far so good
