Not very good, the only good reception is the VHF band and weather broadcasts

The AM band doesn't work that well at night and tuning is very intermittent, only 2 AM stations can be received during the day. something is wrong with this thing! Last night I was able to pick up a weather station channel (40 miles) by holding it upside down but nothing tonight. Very disappointed. I'm not far from Houston so should be able to catch a few AM stations and even skip stations at night. I can walk to my car and hear them perfectly. Shortwave bands don't work either! Tried both batteries. It was at my brother's house in Cleveland, Texas. Now I'm back home and it works better in my wooden house. Attitude is still very changeable, but I can pick up Houston in the morning (80 miles). I can hear the local weather channel perfectly. The flashlight is very bright, the reading lamp is fine. Keep it on your bedside table for instant weather information. FM works well, once you've tuned into a station you have to go back and forth to get it right. I have a Kaito KA500L that has a tuning gauge to help you get the stations right. I must have been spoiled by the old AM radios picking up stations across the country at night.
