Great Product! I don't use it like most do. This item is excellent at dissipating and softening heat. I would estimate that about 25% or less of the flame's heat comes from the bottom of the pot or pan. You will quickly go through the propane and use too much propane to heat with. However, it is absolutely the perfect item to place UNDER a small camp stove if you only have the back of your car or truck or a table in a hotel room to cook with. with a small camping propane stove. Placing this plate under a small camp stove with a strong flame will not damage or melt the surface under the camp stove. It's perfect for blocking heat. Might also be perfect for cooking on a propane stove at home, but I haven't used it for that purpose yet.
