Review on πŸ“ Lorell File Cabinet 24.5H x 14.3W x 18D Black: Stylish and Functional Storage Solution by Sam Goff

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Can be suitable as additional storage but not as an everyday drawer

I have a new desk with no drawers and I need at least one small drawer to put various small things in it and I have a bit limited height and requirements for wide (15 inches wide, 28 inches high) so I was looking for something to put under the table and access the drawer and extra space. It fully meets these requirements. I knew from the reviews it's light etc all fine. It's very light, the edges are sharp on the inside, and it probably won't last forever if you put a lot of pressure on it. I'm not going to do any of that and I knew the rest, so no calls just yet. However, the rails on this thing are terrible. Before that, I had $80 filing cabinets that were heavier, had filing cabinet slides, metal handles, and most importantly, low-friction slide rails. This cheapens all those bills. And since I'm using this for a desk drawer and can't think of any other expected use for it since it's essentially a two-drawer filing cabinet "converted" into a small drawer, I'm not using it beyond its intended use . . But the rails make it almost unreliable. These are friction slides and they have so much friction when empty that when you open the drawer the entire cabinet literally slides. After I've loaded the bottom drawer a bit this doesn't happen anymore, but it still rubs very badly and isn't smooth. The file drawer isn't much better, but I use it as a nearby storage drawer, so I don't care. But I need the box to work without opening it. I've tried putting some chain oil on the rails (top and bottom) to see if that helped and made it smoother, but the friction is still high. Full two stars for that. If it was Revain Prime I would ship it back to UPS today. But it's not worth the trouble. If you're buying it for bulk storage then that's probably fine, just don't load it too heavily. If you use it multiple times a day, every day, skip it.
