My 3 year old saw a similar ice cream set at the dentist and loved it so unexpectedly I bought it online for him. loves it - and now we play ice cream parlor every day. To my surprise our new 1 year old also loves this set. She loves playing with all the pieces, chewing on them, taking them out and putting them back in - she literally sits there for 30 minutes having fun. I suspect it could be the shipping. I took it off and used sandpaper to smooth it out and it's ok. I like the fact that it's mostly wood and I've found that the way the ice cream connects to the waffles and mug is actually pretty solid. I wasn't sure how it would work without the magnets, but now I don't have to worry about the magnets coming loose or losing their effectiveness. Rubber material (e.g. indestructible books) instead of plain paper as it tears easily. The 3 year old is careful but even with careful handling I accidentally tore one of the edges and the 1 year old doesn't have to eat them as she loves to chew on paper. I'll probably take the money and replace it with something else. Or maybe I'll laminate them myself. Generally a good toy, great for creativity and motor development, not mostly plastic which is nice.
