A simple USB stick backup worked perfectly. The HDMI picture quality is poor. Looks the same as airplay - choppy and low res. On my 4k TV, still images look like 720p is too sharp. I suspect this is due to the limitations of the phone, not the device. The device connects easily and works well, but each iOS program has its own approach to working with external files: one program can play WEBM but cannot read external media, another program sees WEBM but cannot play it . I am using iPhone 6s. I have no idea how the new iPhone will work.
