I was given a diaper by a genie from a friend. Within a week of bringing my baby home, my husband insisted the diaper genie was broken and asked me to buy something else. There were many problems with the ghost, but the main problem was that the ghost would stagger when trying to pull out the bags, and the bags would often be torn when swapping. This solved both problems! Because it's metal and heavier than a plastic ghost, it's stronger. Since you can also use regular bin liners, we didn't have any issues with the liners ripping. This is one of my favorite aspects because I buy 1 item less. The capacity also seems to be slightly larger. Overall the diaper capacity on both is a bit disappointing as we have to empty them 2-3 times a week and the nursery only makes half the diapers. Although I have the impression that we perhaps change diapers more than the average number of times a day. I do want to mention that on several occasions we almost stuffed it and I was nervous about ripping the bag. But if it's too full, I just tie the bag shut, reach between the can and the bag and lift a couple of diapers. (The bags we use are always larger than a can as we use the same ones I buy for kitchen scraps.) I was also really impressed by the smell. We haven't had diaper gin long enough to comment on the smell, but the other day I noticed how well it works to hold the smell when I opened it to put on a dirty diaper and was amazed at the stench inside ! When closed, there is no smell! However, you will be exposed to this stench when changing packages. Finally, I love that it comes in colors. Safe greenery looks adorable in a woodland style nursery. The ability to get color was basically just a bonus that put this diaper basket in the first place. I will buy again and recommend to friends.
