Review on Barwa Handcrafted Bridal Gowns for Fashionable Wedding by Charles Salgado

These dresses are made of beautiful fabric. I believe satin is used for the main dress which is then covered with lace. The satin has a high sheen and goes well with the decorative lace overlay. We received 5 different colors in our order - red, pink, yellow, blue and white (with pink and red rosebuds embroidered on the lace overlay). For less than $2 for the dress I was very pleased. But please read on! Why didn't I give such beautiful dresses 5 stars? 1. 3 dresses out of 5 did not fit Barbie doll - too tight at the top to attach the velcro. 2. None of the seams have been "overcast" - this means that the raw material in the seam allowance has come loose. Satin fabric is VERY torn, so not only is there a constant pile of tiny threads unraveling, but eventually the stitching will unravel. For me, the above problems were solved quite simply. I sergered all the seams to finish them off and keep them from fraying and folded the very narrow hem at the bottom to cover the raw edge and sewed them back together. I also removed one side of the Velcro, enlarged the bodice, and reattached the closure. If you're buying these dresses primarily to show Barbie off and not play with her, they're great. If you want dresses to be worn and taken off multiple times, you'll need to have them repaired or plan to throw them away for little use (that is, if they fit at all). You may be able to prevent seam fraying with a product like Fray Check, but it's important to only apply it to seam allowances as it will leave a large "wet" stain on the satin fabric. If you sew or know someone who does it for you, these are great dresses. If not, then these dresses can be a big disappointment.
