My computer was purchased without a hard drive, so it had an empty hard drive bay and connector on the motherboard with "Hard Drive" written next to it. I just bought it, plugged it into my motherboard (blue plastic side up), sealed the hard drive with tape and closed the lid. The laptop recognized the hard drive without flinching. $10 is pretty steep for a basic cable, but it was my cheapest option on Amazon (that's $4 on Alibaba, but 3 months shipping and ½ return versus Amazon's 2-day no-quibble policy). Ultimately, I would highly recommend this to anyone with a compatible laptop.
