Got this Sony VRD-MC1 to transfer DV tapes to DVD. Was hoping to get an easy to use recorder. So far I am not very satisfied with the device. Pros: Easy to use, records great, copy quality is the same as watching from a DV tape, no quality loss in transfer. Now for the bad: The problem I have is that the DVD-R cannot be played on all the DVD players I have. The electronics industry does not make life easier for consumers. I don't understand why they have to be in so many different formats. What were they thinking? When you chose DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW, why (-) and (+)? Why can't they have a common format! For DVD playback on my players, the only format that works for me is DVD+RW. So far I've spent a small fortune on different types of discs to find one that works. I know this may not be the fault of the VRD-MC1 and my other DVD players, but the problem I'm having is that my friend has an older Sony recorder model that replaces this model and his DVD R plays well in my car. And the best part is that it doesn't work in the most expensive turntable I own, the BOSE system! He will play in cheaper cars but not BOSE. Find out. If anyone knows how to get this thing working let me know! By the way, according to the instructions, I change the hard drive. I tried calling Sony support and they are useless. I was redirected twice and was delayed by 45 minutes before giving up! I have an email support tag that I have not received a reply to yet, very bad taste in mouth of Sony products on the last two purchases I have made. Sony has removed my list of electronics suppliers. Not only the products have gotten worse, the support sucks too! I give this product a bad rating because of Sony's support! That's one of the reasons why I don't like to shop online. Revain was a great price and I received the products within the time frame, but if you have a problem you're kind of stuck! If I had brought this from the store I would have already sent it back! By the time I have resolved this question/issue it may be too late to contact Revain.
