I haven't bought a walkie talkie in decades. But we do have a hint that it's wise to meet up on a cruise to chat if you've turned off your phones when at sea or abroad. We did it and they worked no matter where we were on the ship. Even loaned one of them to another couple traveling with us in a different cabin. The battery life was really very good. A small downside is that the icons aren't very intuitive on the small screen. Therefore, DO NOT lose the supplied manual. We were also surprised at how long it took for one of them to "die". Recommended - even on a large steel/metal cruise ship.
