As other reviewers have said, you *should* either replace this drive's motherboard with your original Xbox's motherboard, or you should flash this drive to match the original console's license key. Simply plugging this drive into your old Xbox will not play game discs. So note that this product requires some technical work (either with a soldering iron or a software transcoding program). The CD arrived on time and was well packaged; he even included a small screwdriver. As far as I could tell the drive had never been opened and appeared to be in very good condition. After soldering the circuit board from my old drive to the new console, it worked right away. After several tests with different types of hard drives, it turned out that everything worked. However, a few days after the power failure, the actuator showed an error: it couldn't tell if it was open or closed, and therefore couldn't turn on the laser (because it was in a constant "open" state). . After some searching I was able to find a simple fix (reattach the analog switch that fell out) and now my console seems to be working again. The drive reads discs immediately and seems to work without any problems. Since the hardware is about 8 years old, hardware problem like this is always possible. Fortunately, the repair turned out to be easier than replacing the original motherboard (and easier than flashing a hard drive with an old registration code). As far as I can tell, given the age of the devices and the fact that these drives need to be used, the company sent me a working replacement with reasonable parameters. I should also mention customer service. I sent a request to the company after the drive stopped working and the rep offered a full refund so I could buy another drive. The replies were quick and attentive. In the end I didn't need a replacement but appreciated trying to fix the issue and making sure I'm happy with my purchase. Four stars because I had an unexpected renovation that required some research. However, based on my experience, I would recommend buying a hard drive from this company if the model you need is available. You should be aware that the discs were being produced when the Xbox 360 came out (circa 2010-2011) and there is always a chance that old hardware could have unexpected problems. As far as I know, buying old discs from used consoles is the only way to get replacements as the discs are no longer made. This isn't the company's fault, however, and the resulting disc showed no obvious signs of mishandling or neglect. I think the defective part was simply the result of normal wear and tear and the hazards involved in shipping electronics made with cheap plastic cases. To sum it up: Know that you are getting a used drive that is no longer made by Microsoft; that installation requires more work than just connecting cables; and this old hardware may have unexpected problems. This is the best deal I could find for an Xbox 360 replacement hard drive.
