We started getting water boards when my daughter was 1.5 years old (I think) and she loved the magic of the colorful image that appeared when she moved the handle. Now that she is almost 3 years old, she loves finding hidden secrets with her water pen. They all have a list of "things to find" that she likes to follow, like 3 flamingos etc. I love the pen itself, it's like drawing with water, not like a marker like some of the others. It also makes coloring the whole picture much easier, but makes fine work, like writing letters, a bit more difficult. Bags for a long time without pre-drying. For the price, I don't mind replacing them regularly when they have problems like this. Most often we use water boards on airplanes. It is a 4 hour flight to see my parents (her grandparents) and my mother pays us for the flight every few months. I always take lots of fun on the plane, but that's one of our staples! Not messy at all and lots of fun finding all the items listed.
