Just in case anyone needs to know, I washed it in medium warm water and tumble dried on low. It still shrank 1 inch and the full dress length went from 23.5 inches to 22.5 inches for a size 5T dress. The good news is that the bodice has only shrunk 1/4 inch as measured at the bottom. ((from 12.5" to 12.25") and the width of the skirt (which I think starts out a little tight for playful 5-year-olds) remains the same - 17" in diameter at the very bottom. The stars stayed bright, unaffected by anything.
