This is the perfect sewing machine for beginners. Being light and compact is a big plus as space is of the essence, but I haven't seen any sacrifices from the smaller size and functionality either. Still performs all basic functions. The tension adjustment knob turns smoothly, the motor runs quite smoothly. I like to turn the LED on so I can clearly see where the arrow is going, but you can also turn the LED off. The pedal is a little small and a bit flimsy, but works well. It's like a car, it's made of plastic, so don't be rough with it! I like that the speed button is not on the pedal so I don't accidentally press it, I find it more convenient than before. Used on a previous car many years ago. Needles are good for hemming and mending.
