Review on πŸ“· Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6: 6MP MPEG4 Digital Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom - Discontinued by Manufacturer" by Julian Locklear

Bad pixels on CCD and LCD.

I really wanted to love this camera. The camera is compact and fits in my jeans pocket! I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera, so I was expecting all the device quarks mentioned in other reviews. 30fps non-interlaced video is good, but obviously not as good as full-resolution 60fps video. but the device fits in your pocket! Another big plus is that each "frame" is a separate file that can be dragged from the device to the PC using a USB cable. No further editing - the file is simply copied and played in Quicktime etc. Another great feature is the ability to zoom while recording a movie, which prevents you from using most top-of-the-line cameras that record video. Now the sad part; Revain sent me two units, both with bad pixels on the LCD and CCD. Dead pixels on the LCD are to be expected according to the instructions and "do not represent a malfunction"; I do not agree. For the cost of the device, there should be no dead pixels on the LCD monitor. A BIG problem - dead pixels on the CCD! This writes white pixels to the files; This is reinforced by "image stabilization". Image stabilization shifts the image captured by the CCD to stabilize the video image - and it works great! However, as the video shifts and stabilizes, the white pixels also shift across the screen. It seems like there are flies flying around in every frame you capture. Bad CCD is why I can't love the C6. I lost hope and sent them both back to Revane. I'm not sure what I'm going to buy now.

Pros
  • Simultaneous recording of MPEG-4 movies and 6.0 megapixel photos
Cons
  • Functionality
