I forgot to undo the top screws and 'removed' them by pulling straight up. So the top part is broken and it was relatively easy to make. Besides, this little thing is awesome. The backlight inside is blue, it does not dazzle at night. The top is not heavy enough to be unbalanced when open. There is a place to stub out a cigarette and a comb/spider web to shake off the ashes. The outside of the ashtray has a diamond-shaped bevel and each surface reflects the light at a different angle so you can always see it. And its diameter is small and it fits in my car's cup holder. Everything in it is plastic. There is no metal. It's not the most durable item. You don't want to take it on a hike or put it in your backpack/bag. The upper part does not close airtight when closed. It has tension and wants to stay closed, but it doesn't take much force to open.
