These are good clamps and definitely have better (bigger/stronger) claws than many others. There are sufficiently large gaps between the claws that allow for a good grip. That being said, for people like me with excess hair, you might find that you still need a few extra bobby pins to keep hair right where you want it. The flowers are pretty and add a cute detail to an otherwise boring clip, but they fell apart after the first wear so I patched mine up with some super glue. Maybe it's a common issue - but it was very hot when they were delivered so I'm not sure if that affected things so they're willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
