Ideal apartment block. I've installed hundreds.

SIEMENS is a production of the highest quality. I have hundreds of surge protection products installed in my carrier. What makes it different is that if it fails, it emits a loud beep to alert the owner to replace it. What most people don't realize is that almost all surge protectors can eventually fail or collapse if given a very strong shock. The lifespan of most surge protectors can be 10 years, but this is not a guarantee. If there are very few hits, that's fine. Many hits can corrode the semiconductor over time. A severe blow can rip varistor technology apart, often salvaging the delicate electronics it's designed to protect but unavailable the next day, so to speak. The only problem is that it is large and MUST be installed in a junction box by a licensed electrician. If the electrical box is in drywall, a finished room, or there is no space around the perimeter of the electrical box, installation can be a headache and may not be pretty. a smaller Edco/Emerson #HSP-121A unit (no horn, just LED) which is the perfect line unit I've used for decades without a problem and has a nifty see-through cover. They are ideal for all types of alarms and sensitive electronics. Edco can be used outdoors, but seal the cables in the cable duct to prevent condensation from damaging the circuit board. Install with the conduit down in any external application, like a short bracket.

Pros
  • The housing is designed for outdoor use type 4 and can also be mounted in a load center.
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
