I bought a couple of other AC to DC adapters that were rated for 5 amps. They were extremely lightweight, and I was highly skeptical of their rated power. Although not a scientific test, I judge these little devices by their weight lol. This one has some weight to it, and it seems to work very well for my application. I see no reason this unit cannot handle 5 amps. It just feels right, and so far has worked very well for my application. Just make sure your power requirements are less than 5 amps, and if in doubt, cut that figure by two thirds to be safe. I run an item needing 3 amp peak power, and have had zero issues with overheating.
