Goes VERY fast and difficult to control!

My 2 year old son got it as a gift. He loves it but it's happening SO FAST it's crashing all over the place and I'm afraid he'll damage the house, break something or actually hurt himself if he bumps into someone! Besides, you can't control it. Does it only go forward or do you have to reverse for the wheels to turn? If you press the reverse button, it just spins in circles. It's almost comical how fast it flies around on the hardwood floors around our house. I can't even get him to drive in a straight line or drive him around the house. In addition, if you press any of the buttons, "We didn't start the fire" will play.
