Updated after 2 years of constant use by 2 dogs and 2 cats: still works great with excellent outdoor sealing. Good product! For ten years we have had a flexible folding door for dogs. i hated it This led me to the wall and tried to get it to seal. The valve inevitably warped at the edges, and cold air whistled in. I was able to take it apart and flatten it out with a low speed iron and get a normal seal for a while, but it only lasted a month or so and we actually had open mouths opening cold air again. The old door panel was thin too, and I swear the cold radiated right through it. I bought a small cat door similar to this design for my daughter. It kept out the cold air and rain so well that I finally decided to replace our old dog flap with this one. Best thing I've ever done to keep our house warm and cut my heating bills! What a wonderful improvement! I really can't say enough good things about this dog door. Dogs and cats were initially reluctant to use it because the lid was strong and seemed to slam shut, but after a few weeks they got used to it. Installation was easy. I also installed the previous dog flap. I had to widen the previous hole in width and putty on top with a piece of plywood. We also used spray foam in the gap behind the frame to improve weather protection. If you are looking for a dog door that will really keep out the cold, wind and rain then I think you will find this door to suit your needs. .
